My Morning at Los Angeles Magazine

Today was a PERFECT day! I presented 15 of my custom wrapped gift samples and tons of Valentine cards to a panel of judges at LOS Angeles Magazine for their "Style Star of Tomorrow" contest. They are searching for one talented individual who is making waves in the art, music, photography, design, and style industries. The judges were the VP of Business Development at Gen Art: Jen Egan, the VP of Marketing at Los Angeles magazine: June Miller Richards, Project Runway season two alum & instructor at FIDM/ Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising: Nick Verreos, Creative Director of Creative Intelligence: Marc Friedland (He designed Oprah's 50th B-day invitations and told me I remind him of himself as a youngster getting started!), and Professor of Design at Otis College of Art and Design: Tony Young. The whole thing was filmed by KTLA (channel 5) - THE KTLA MORNING SHOW will air the auditions on Wednesday, March 12 and viewers will vote for one of three finalists who will then be named on Friday, March 14! Not to toot my own horn, BUT the judges LOVED me and my gifts, I was told that each one was a work of art and they had never seen anything like what I was presenting. They asked me a million questions - what inspirations me? (Living in LA, observing people on the streets, Teen Vogue, my own style) how did I get started? what is the most unique object I have used in my wrapping? (I made something clever up) what is the largest present I have ever wrapped? Have I ever wrapped myself up? do I have a staff? The vintage, "found object", recycled aspect to my gifts really appealed to them! They all agreed that Los Angeles is the perfect city to launch such a specialized, "hyper niche" service. The panel brainstormed people for me to talk to and places for me to wrangle up high end clients. One judge thought Marc by Marc Jacobs would be the perfect place to start out pitching myself. Los Angeles Magazine's June Miller Richards wants to do a write up on my work in their BUZZ section - It was so fun! They all agreed I need to get myself a publicist and work on my marketing. No matter what the outcome, I took away a lot of compliments and great ideas for the future of my budding business! I was quite thrilled with the whole event!
